This time of year can be challenging for me, as people bring in a grass seedling or a basal rosette and ask me for an ID. This plant looked familiar, though. Then I found an old flower stalk. Should be easy, although photographs never capture the exact color and color texture.

ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, the place seems too wet for Dodecatheon. Now I'm guessing Saxifraga pensylvanica.
ReplyDeleteI think I liked your first guess, Keith. Saxifraga pensylvanica would have pilose pubescence on the upper leaf surface. Those leaves look glabrous. Habitat certainly seems odd.
